Introducing Pantera 5678
FOR SALE SOLD
NOTE: The following information was first posted on this web site in
August of 2006. This Pantera was available through about April of 2007
when I believe it sold. I do not have any details on who it sold to. However,
this very same car showed up on the Internet, for sale, in Arizona in
March of 2009. It had received new felt in the front trunk and the rear
tub. The paint had been shined up but still the same. The interior and
exterior had been cleaned up and it looked like several coats of Armor
All had been applied, though no rust was taken care of anywhere on the
car, engine, trans, etc. It also sported a mis-matched set of Campagnolo
wheels. The Odometer in Arizona also showed 30 thousand miles, which means
either 50 thousand were put on in less than three years, or the odometer
had been rolled back. Anyone looking at this car in the future should
be made aware of these facts.
This web site documents what the car was like in August of 2006 when
the then owner was itnerviewed and the photos taken. This was about three
years prior to it being mis-represnted in Arizona. This was an original
California car, and not an original Arizona car.
We're gonna do this all in one shot, so please wait while it all loads.
The photos are 1024x768 to retain high resolution for some shots. Please
be patient.
Introducing Pantera 5678, a 1973 L, in Red, with Black interior. This
car is mostly stock.
If you are looking for a good complete stock Pantera, this one will get
you very close. The car was painted sometime in it's history, but prior
to the current owner. The car has been garaged most of it's life and the
body is in great condition. There are only a couple of small rust spots
that would not deter me from buying this car. It needs some love, as most
of these do after 30 years. It looks as if it were a daily driver for
many years. The owner used to put between 4K and 6K miles on it each year
but has not driven it in the last several. The odometer shows 81K miles.
The interior needs a new dash or cover, a new steering wheel, new carpet
and a switch bezel replaced, otherwise the interior is in very nice shape.
The engine is stock having had the heads freshened and gaskets and seals
replaced at one point, otherwise the engine has never been rebuilt and
runs good and strong. The ZF feels good, shifts a little stiff but that
is probably due to old grease and a sticky trunion.
The Pantera is offered for sale at $28,000 and the owner is open to negotiation.
For now, please contact me for any additional information. The car is
located near Spokane Washington. (Deer Park Airport, inside an Airplane
Hanger, ed 2009)
Okay, now the paint is going to look mottled, but that's because the
car is covered in a layer of dust, and it rained while we were previewing
the car.
The paint is fair overall, and could use a good day of rubbing compound
and wax. The body is very straight with only a couple minor problems.
The front bumper is a nice fiberglass replacement. It's straight and
in good shape. The rear bumper is original. Originally a California car.
The wheels are non-stock American Racing aftermarket replacements. They
don't look too bad on this Pantera, especially with the rubber filling
the wheel wells.
There are no original wheels that go with this car.
The door panels are in great shape, as are the seats. You can also see
the hinge areas and the door sills.
The steering wheel is stock and needs either a new cover or full replacement.
Guages all work and the odometer shows just over 80K miles.
Some chrome is peeling from one switch, but otherwise the switches function
and are in good shape, they even -snap- crisply when actuated.
This is one blem in the interior. The bulkhead cover shows wear at the
bottom edge near the door.
Aftermarket radio. The install was not done extremely well but can be
fixed up.
Cracks in the dash.
Original spare tire, but I didn't find the inflator bomb.
The trunk could use new felt but otherwise is still functional with little
sign of any rust.
Stock radiator and fans.
Not much if any corrosion here near the battery.
Bad shot (must of still been in macro mode). This is the only spot of
undercarraige rust I readily saw. This is the tube behind the drivers
wheel.
This is the only spot of rust I could find on the exterior. This is just
below the windshield on the drivers side. Again, I apologize for the quality
of photo.
And again, the paint really is all one color, but you are seeing dust
and rain mixed.
The tub really needs new felt. You can see the jack, wheel spanner and
a socket for the axle nuts. I don't know if the steering wheel locker
goes with it.
The A/C does not work. There is a blown hose somewhere, the owner heard
it go when the car lost A/C. All components appear to be there.
The engine serial number matches the one on the body. This Pantera really
is about as stock as you'll find them.
The engine tag is still visible and attached.
The stock carb has been replaced with a Holley. The original carb and
air cleaner can go with the car.
Original deck lid shocks and they still hold up in 70 degree heat. WOW!
You can't tell in this photo, but the u-joints are greasable, having
been replaced long ago with Spicer units (we think)
