Rebuilding a 351 Cleveland,
for use in a 1971 Mach I Mustang
The links to the left will help you navigate to the various pages.
This is a re-design of the pages you may have seen earlier. More
pages to be added later.
Background: Why am I doing this? This
page describes some of the whys.
Specs': What basic parts are going
into this rebuild? Get part numbers, manufaturers, etc.
The Bottom End:
Work progressing on the block and reciprocating
assembly
- In the beginning, This is the block
I selected, grimy, grundgy, yuck.
- The block comes back, shiny, ready
for assembly.
- Pistons and Rods, nuff said.
- Windage Tray and Cam Timing, scraping
and collecting oil, and intro to cam timing.
- The Timing Set, gear drive, solid,
reliable, and whines like a blower.
- The Eccentric Problem, the gear
drive poses a problem.
- First Solution to the
Eccentric Problem, possible solutions to the gear drive problem.
- Final Solution to the
Eccentric Problem, how we solved
it.
- Oiling Part 1: Pump and pickup, critical
thinking about lubrication.
- Oiling Part 2: External Plumbing, making
the system do more.
The Top End:
Work progressing on the Heads and valve train
- The 4V Heads, quench chambers even,
you gotta look here.
- Putting the Heads On the Block, the
engine is really coming together.
- Installing the Hydraulic Roller Conversion
Kit, roller cam, cool.
The Transmission:
Work on the massive, bulletproof C6 with "special" modifications
- The Case, working on getting the tranny
pages going, it might be a while yet.
Where I found Information:
Just a whole lot of links I've captured in the past three years getting
ready for this
- Links: Other Internet sites that have been
helpful in doing this "right"
- Darryl's Stang Stable, another
gentleman who's collected many tips, tricks and good 351C info.

It's October 1999 and we finally have everything in place, well,
almost. Except for whatever gaskets or small parts we've missed, we
now have all the major pieces in one place. Here, the Mach I is covered
in the Shop, as it is most of the time. Shelley, my wife sits and
does cross-stitch as I work on the engine. She also helps take some
photos and is getting better at identifying a 1/2 inch versus 9/16
open end wrench. |
